BAMBOO SCHOOL

In one of the most remote regions of Yunnan Province, not far from the Myanmar border, the Bulang people of Bangxie Village have participated in the construction of a new vision for their community and schooling.  While some ethnic minorities in the distant villages of Yunnan, most notably the Dai of Xishuangbanna, are experiencing some economic and cultural resurgence, the lands most immediate to this site remain impoverished.  The Bamboo School rises in this mountain valley as an opportune co-operation between Schools for Yunnan, Robarts Interiors & Architecture, and local builders. As a community building it is intended to serve the forgotten needs of the local population, but as a work of architecture the hope is for the project to spark the imagination and the possibilities for what the future might hold.  Please visit www.bangxie.weebly.com
